Questions people ask

How does the page compound my savings?
It turns your annual rate and compounding choice into an equivalent monthly rate, then grows the starting balance and adds your monthly deposit each month for the number of years you set.
What does Effective Annual Yield (APY) mean?
It is the annual rate after compounding. With more frequent compounding, the same annual interest rate produces a higher APY.
How much of the ending balance is interest?
Interest Earned is the ending balance minus your starting balance and every monthly deposit. The Year by Year table shows that split for each year.
Does this account for taxes or inflation?
No. The page uses only your starting balance, deposit, rate, compounding and years, so the result is before tax and in future dollars.
