Questions people ask

How is the balance at maturity calculated?
The page grows your deposit at the APY for the length of the term in years. APY already includes compounding, so no separate compounding setting is needed.
How does the early withdrawal penalty work here?
You enter the penalty as months of interest, from your CD disclosure. The page takes the average interest per month over the term, multiplies it by that number of months, and never lets the penalty exceed the interest earned.
Why does the page show a nominal rate as well as the APY?
The nominal rate is the annual rate that, compounded each month, produces the same APY you entered. It helps when one bank quotes APY and another quotes a rate.
Does the result include tax on the interest?
Balance at Maturity is before tax. The page treats CD interest as ordinary income, applies the tax rate you enter to the interest, and shows the balance after tax on a separate line.
