Questions people ask

How does the page project my 401(k) balance?
It works month by month: each year it raises your salary by the annual raise, takes your contribution percentage of that salary plus the employer match, adds both in monthly steps, and grows the balance at your annual return compounded monthly.
How is the employer match calculated?
The match is the match rate times your contribution, counted only up to the cap percentage of your pay. Contributions above the cap earn no match.
What is Match Left Unclaimed?
If you contribute less than the cap, it adds up the match you would have received by contributing up to the cap, over all the years in the projection.
Why is the contribution limit left blank?
The IRS sets the limit each year, so the page leaves it to you. Enter the current figure to cap your own contribution, or leave it at 0 to ignore it.
