U.S. Bank Altitude® Reserve Visa Infinite® Card Review

Altitude Reserve earned a loyal following by paying 3X on anything bought through a mobile wallet. U.S. Bank has closed the card to new applicants, so this review is written for existing cardmembers deciding whether the $400 fee still earns its keep.

How You Earn

The signature category is mobile wallet spending: pay with your phone and nearly everything earns 3X, up to $5,000 per billing cycle.

  • Mobile wallet 3X applies to your first $5,000 each billing cycle, then 1X
  • A purchase that is both mobile wallet and travel earns bonus points once, not twice

How You Redeem

Points reach their maximum value when redeemed for travel or for deposits to an eligible U.S. Bank account, commonly quoted at 1.5 cents per point for travel.

  • Real-Time Rewards lets cardmembers redeem points against travel purchases as they post
  • Merchandise, gift card and statement credit redemptions can carry a lower value per the program rules

Benefits and Protections

As a Visa Infinite card, Altitude Reserve carries a premium protection package alongside its travel credits.

  • $325 annual travel credit
  • TSA PreCheck or Global Entry application fee credit
  • Priority Pass Select lounge visits
  • No foreign transaction fees

Who This Card Is For

Only existing cardmembers can hold this card now. Keeping it makes sense when mobile wallet spending is high and the travel credit gets used every year. Anyone shopping for a new U.S. Bank travel card should look at Altitude Connect instead.

  • Existing cardmembers with heavy mobile wallet use should keep it
  • The $325 travel credit must be used to justify the $400 fee
  • New applicants must choose a different card
