This card is for people who fly Southwest a few times a year. Southwest purchases earn 3 points per $1, grocery stores and restaurants earn 2 points per $1 on the first $8,000 a year, and everything else earns 1. Cardmembers get a first checked bag free, a Preferred seat within 48 hours of departure, Group 5 boarding and 6,000 points each anniversary. The caveat: the $149 annual fee only pays off if you actually fly Southwest, and the 2X grocery and restaurant rate stops after $8,000 a year.
