Chase Freedom Rise® Credit Card Review
Freedom Rise is Chase's answer to the credit-building segment: no deposit, no prior card history required, and a built-in path to Freedom Unlimited. This review covers how the dining bonus and autopay credit work, what the card leaves out, and who it actually fits.
How You Earn
Earning is simple and time-limited on one side. Dining pays a boosted rate for six months, then everything settles to one flat rate.
- 3% cash back total on dining at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery, on up to $6,000 spent in the first 6 months from account opening
- 1.5% cash back on all other purchases, with no cap
- 2% total cash back on qualifying Lyft rides and purchases through 9/30/2027
- No activation needed for any of these rates
| Category | Earn rate |
|---|---|
| Dining, first 6 months, up to $6,000 spent | 3% total |
| Lyft rides and purchases, through 9/30/2027 | 2% total |
| All other purchases | 1.5% |
How You Redeem
Cash back adds up as Chase Ultimate Rewards points you can take as cash, with no minimum to redeem and no expiration while the account stays open.
- Statement credit or direct deposit to most U.S. checking and savings accounts
- Gift cards and purchases through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal
- Rewards do not expire while the account is open
Building Credit With This Card
Freedom Rise is an unsecured credit card, not a debit card and not a loan. Chase does not ask for a security deposit, which is unusual for a starter product. What you owe is a revolving balance you agree to repay, and on-time payments are what build your credit history.
- No security deposit required to open the account
- Having at least $250 in a Chase checking or savings account can improve your approval odds, though it is not a requirement
- Free credit score tracking and identity monitoring through Chase Credit Journey
- Chase automatically reviews eligible accounts each year for an upgrade to Chase Freedom Unlimited once the account has been open, used, and paid on time for 12 months
Benefits and Protections
The protections are lighter than Chase's flagship cash back cards but still cover the basics.
- Zero liability protection for unauthorized charges
- Chase Credit Journey credit score tracking and identity monitoring
- 6 months of complimentary DashPass, with a quarterly DoorDash discount through eligible use
- No annual fee, as of Sep 4, 2026
Who This Card Is For
This card fits people opening their first credit card and people rebuilding after a thin or damaged credit file, especially those who want to avoid tying up cash in a security deposit. It is not built to maximize rewards.
- First-time credit card applicants and students
- Anyone who wants a clear, automatic path to a stronger no-fee card
- Not the right fit for someone who already qualifies for a higher flat-rate card
